Strawman Paragraph
Bill Bryson believes that the United States is very safe. He believes this because there was no crime in the town he lived in. The town was so safe that people did not lock the doors of cars or houses and left bikes in the open unlocked. There was no theft because no one wanted to buy the stolen goods. Research shows that Bryson lived in Hanover, New Hampshire, a small town of about 10,000 people, that does have crime, but very little compared to the rest of the United States. In fact, CNN ranked Hanover as the second best place to live in the country. There is lots of crime in the United States, but Bryson lived in one of the safest places and therefore came to the wrong conclusion.

This is a good start, though since you're building up a point, you might start with your middle statement:
ReplyDelete"Research agrees with Bryson that his small hometown is very safe. In fact, CNN ranked Hanover as the second best place to live in the country. Because of this, it's easy to understand Bryson's claims that there is no crime.....However, (here's where you knock it down) this does not represent the majority of American cities. (Prove with evidence.)"
