Autism/Video/Book

In the video "Autism" it helped me understand what it really feels like to be autistic like chistopher. The video showed how hard of a life the kids are going through and not able to fully every emotion that is surrounding them. For example Neil and his mother have been through alot alone besides them dealing with Neil's Autism. Neil's mother is a hard working lady who tried best to help her son battle through this desease and get it under control. Her Husband had split up with her and it hurted her alot but it made her stronger. Christopher can relate to Neil in alot of ways, for example the parenthood; as you can see Christophers parents did break up. The video helped me understand the Disease "Autism" in a special way, the book helped but not as much as visual wise. When Christopher found his neighbors dog he went to her house and repeatedly kept coming and going and his behavior was very awkward. So his neighbor called the cops on him. In Neil's situation, when his behavior gets awkward and he doesnt know how to react to certain situations he becomes aggressive for example when he seen the litttle kid in the park. He attacked the little kid and he lost control of him self. Christopher and neil are alot similar when it comes to behavior too, they intend to attack. In the Movie Autism showed me how it affected more than one person and that it was a very serious illness, but in the book autism only showed me how it affected one person and it was only christopher. Autism can affect anyone and it can hurt parents so much because society will not just welcome these kids, it did not welcome christopher and Neil.

book/video

I believe that the video Autism: the Musical helped me to understand Christopher more because we were actually able to see someone with Autism as opposed to reading about Autism. In the book there are accounts of Christopher’s behavior and actions by himself and those close to him and that helps but it’s only a piece of fully understanding Autism. In the video, we have the opportunity to see children with Autism and see how they act naturally, not with someone telling us how they act. I like that in the book we are able to get Christopher’s perspective and how he thinks how he does and why he thinks the way he does. This helps us to understand Christopher more so than the disease itself but the disease plays into that as well. In the video, we see children with Autism and we see how that affects them personally with school, friends, and family. The video bridges the gap of not being able to see Christopher in the way that we were able to see Autistic children and we were able to see what kind of ticks they had in the video and we can apply that to the book. The one thing that limits us from fully understanding Christopher is that we cannot see him; the one thing I noticed is that every Autistic kid has a different tick to him or her and we cannot SEE Christopher’s. Even though we are not able to see Christopher personally, seeing a video with Autistic children helped to better understand Christopher and his struggles and successes.

Autism: The Musical

The movie "Autism:the musical" really teach more about the people who have autism look like. Also what they are.The movie is like Christopher storie and how he lives. There are many character that are like Chirstopher and the way he act.For one example is lexi. She is young lady that like to sing but she afraid of a lot people. When she sees other people she put her head down.Christopher is like to.He is a kid that dont like to hang with a bunch of people .He always like to be alone in his own world.Another example for Lexi is that she only have her mother,The Dad left her and the mother because he could not stay with a person that have autis.Christopher have only his father to take care of him and nobody else. His mom use to be here for him but she could not be patient with how Christopher was acting. The father was patient with him and take care of him so the mother had to leave and thought they did not need her so he have only his father. The last eample is Henry,a kid that is always smart and he is good at Dinosaurs. He can name all of the Dinosaurs and what they are and also how they sound. He also talk like a adult that is scientist and telling the people what he knows about Dinosaurs.Chirstopher is also like that. He can cound prime number up to 7,057.He is also good at other stuff that he put his mind to. He like to slove hard mysteries. Also he can name the countries and there capitals. So i would say that most Aurism kid are like the same. And after watching the movie now i know how Autism kid are.

Autism: The Musical

After watching "Autism: The Musical", I understood Christopher from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night- Time a lot better. While I was watching the movie I started to realize how kids with Autism live an everyday life and that Autism can be severe or mild. Lexi, Henry and Wyatt reminded me of Christopher and how he acts on a regular basis.

The first thing that reminded me of Christopher was when Lexi began to shut down when she would go into a crowd of people, such as a playground. Lexi would start to ignore her mom when she would call her name if she was in a crowd of people. This situation is similar to when Christopher went into a store with his mom and he crouched down on the floor and went into his "own world". Going into his "own world" reminds me of Henry from the movie. Henry and Christopher are both very intelligent when it comes to remembering facts but they also both tend to shut down and go into they're own worlds. When they go into their own worlds they shut everyone out and keep to themselves. They both will listen to you but they will ignore you and not talk to you as well. These two children remind me of Christopher in a few ways but one character from the movie was extremely important to me, that was Wyatt.

In the book Christopher was all about getting an A in his "maths" classes and believes he is smart and can be in a higher level math. As for Wyatt, he believes he is smart enough to the point where he can be in a mainstream class. Also, Wyatt does not like loud noises and seems to care about others. When I noticed Wyatt cared, it reminded me of when Christopher cared about the dog and who killed him. He didn't believe it was fair that someone killed him and this is very similar to Wyatt.

After watching the movie I feel a lot more educated on Autism. I understand the levels of Autism and how serious it can be. The movie also shows that even with Autism kids can do so many things and this helps me see life from Christopher's point of view a lot more better than before I watched the movie.

Autism the Musical

After watching the film, Autism: The Musical it really helped me understand the disease, and the way kids that have it react to different things. One main thing I learned after watching this video is that people with Autism just think differently, than people without the disease. People with autism use their brains differently than people that do not have the disease. This does not mean that they are less smart or can't use their minds in the same way as normal people, but it simply means they process things differently than other people. In some cases, people with autism can actually be extremely smart. This movie really helped me to understand the character Christopher in the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Christopher is actually very smart, and knows many different things such as all the prime numbers up to seven thousand and something. Even I don't know that and I'm in college and Christopher is only fifteen years old. In the movie, Henry is also a very smart kid for his age especially when it comes to prehistoric animals. During the movie, they showed him in a museum rambling off all these facts about all these different animals. I though this was amazing for a child his age. Many autistic kids, also have many specific talents that they are extremely good at. In Christopher's case, he was very good at math. He could do math problems easily in his head that were very complex. In the movie, Lexi and Adam were very talented in the music field. Lexi was an amazing singer who had a great voice, and Adam could play the cello extremely well for a seven year old. When I heard the two, I was in awe. They very both so good at what they did. After watching this video, it really helped me to fully understand people with Autism. They aren't always necessarily dumb they are usually extremely smart, and can use their minds in ways people without the disease ever could. I thought it was great what Elaine did for the children, and I really think that it helped each and every kid become a better person in their own way. I'm sure it also helped their families in a number of ways as well.

Autism: The Musical

The film "Autism: The Musical" gave great insight on how Christopher deals with his life on a day to day basis. Personally I feel that Christopher and Wyatt had the most in common. Wyatt and Christopher seemed to have some similar characteristics. In the movie Wyatt seemed to be one of the more intelligent children in the film. In the novel Chris is very good at "maths" and is trying to get out special needs classes as is Wyatt. There were other characters that reminded me of Christopher such as Lexi. Lexi was rather quiet and didn't speak unless being spoken to. This reminded me of when Chris didn't want to go into his neighbors house because he did not know her well enough. While watching the film I noticed that Henry was very random. This reminded me a lot of Christopher because it seems like every other chapter in the novel there is a random story or reasoning he has for doing something.

Overall the movie helped me understand Chris and autism a little more. Before the film I felt that autistic children were good at looking at things logically but lacked some of the emotional capabilities. After watching film I learned why Chris never wanted to be hugged, autistic children don't like being touched, and why he felt confused and upset as to why is father would lie to him. Christopher views things in black or white and right and wrong. Watching children like Chris made it easier to understand what Christopher thinks about and the actions he does as I read the novel.
